The intention of this paper is to situate and promulgate the Italian text, Vilanova Artigas: ricerca brutalista, written by Bruno Alfieri in 1960 for Zodiac number 6. The text, broadcasted in an architectural magazine which intended to expand the discussion field beyond European territory, reverberated in the period in which it was published and still deserves attention for its contents as to bring to the present time the author ́s criticism, comparing the positions of the past to the latest readings. The text highlights the architect Vilanova Artigas in a number dedicated to Brazil in the year of the inauguration of Brasilia. Inserted in a period of discussions about Brazilian architecture, the author identifies a new path represented by Artigas, and is very accurate in analyzing his personality, his work and the possibilities that would be opened to Artigas in the years to come.
