Abstract

This article adresses the subject of the author’s PhD thesis, regarding the architectural principles of Frank Lloyd Wright’s organic architecture and their influence on the Modern Architecture in São Paulo, focusing on the design and built work of Vilanova Artigas. This re-evaluation resumes new research by the author and some recent scholarship published regarding Artigas. From a brief fortuna critica of the historiography on Vilanova Artigas, and of how wrightian inspiration on him is discussed over time, the author resumes the principles of organic architecture and how they would have remained underlying the mature work of the Brazilian architect.
