The simultaneous presence of two attitudes to ward metropolis - distrust and desire - has become central in our culture, with the metropolis to be violently denounced and / or passionately exalted. Thus, responding to an anxiety of our time, I propose an analysis of the process of this dialectic, which began at the end of the century. XVIII, supporting me in the reflections of two key authors of contemporary architectural thought: Italian historian Manfredo Tafuri and the Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas.
