Rafael Moneo: investigation on project strategy
Keywords:
architecture project, project strategy, heritage and projectAbstract
The research consists of studying the production of the Spanish architect Rafael Moneo (1937) by investigating a specific work where contemporary design meets with preexisting documentary interest. It starts with the concept of “architectural intervention” of Ignasi de Sola-Morales, present in his book Interventional (2006), to investigate the project strategy that is oriented toward the preexisting work, from an “analog operation” established between the “new” and “old”. The study focuses on the Expansion of the Prado Museum (2000-2007), the result of a long procurement process. Based on literature review and iconography material examination, diagrams were elaborated aimed to interpret and indentify the intervention criteria adopted by the project author.
