Diamantina: a brief report of his formation

Abstract

The article is based on the first chapter of the thesis called “Trials in Diamantina: a study on the practice of SPHAN in the urban protected site, 1938-1967”, and discusses the development of the ancient Tijuco, since its origin until the first decades of the 20th century. The analysis of its former urban shape is based on maps and on the descriptions of foreign visitors from which we can foresee the impact of new structures in the city that was going to be listed as national heritage, in 1938 – date that marks the beginning of the efforts for its preservation.
