Abstract

This paper has the intention to analyse the construction techniques applied in contemporary roofs, where the shape and structure has an important role in the design conditions. The selections chosen were two projects that has a different structural design, this structures apply new materials, or rescue the tectonic concepts. The covers of the Sony Center in Berlin architect Helmuth Jhan, and Santa Caterine Market in Barcelona Enric Miralles and Benedetta Tagliabue are appreciated. The methodology considers the literature review, a site visit and a review of techniques employed. The research intends to contribute to the knowledge of building systems used in the architecture, based on research of the adopted models, technical characteristics and tectonic expression.
