The facts that preceded the events of 2013 in Porto Alegre: the city, pu- blic space and the struggle for rights

The article examines how certain interventions in public spaces and in the city have limited places of social and political action in Porto Alegre. The renewed popular affirmation for these spaces, culminated in manifestations that claimed better public transport and urban mobility services, beyond the debate about the boundaries between public and private. From theoretical framework and reports, evaluates the decisions taken in the political sphere, acts of popular counterpart in 2012 and the events in 2013. The aim of this analysis is to relate events that occurred in the period, the subjects “right to the city” and “public space”.
