Team 10: the Doorn Manifesto.

Abstract

The article discuss the “Doorn Manifesto”, which is an important text that introduces the Team 10 work and serves, also, as an preamble to the CIAMX. During the 10th CIAM commission, Team 10 declared the death of the event, which had been inaugurated in 1928 in La Sarraz. This Manifesto presents new stances on city planning during post-war years. At that time, urbanism was no longer guided by the Charter of Athens. The search for new definitions to account for the complexity of the city in the years 1950-1960, ultimately lead to the concept of “habitat”. This new concept was undertaken by the young European architects who had inherited modern tradition and tried to overcome it.
