This article addresses the innovative perception of artistic space and the development of installation languages in the 20th century, with a focus on the influence of Brazilian artist Lygia Pape. In the 1960s and 1970s, Pape conducted experiments that explored spatial dynamics and invited the audience to reconsider their relationship with the surrounding space, highlighting the transformative potential of the environment through displacement and interaction. Pape, along with other artists such as Hélio Oiticica and Lygia Clark, brought a new perspective to art, going beyond traditional works in galleries and enclosed spaces, and exploring space in everyday life, landscapes, urban contexts, and architecture. Influenced by her urban experiences, Pape turned her attention to the gallery space, moving away from conventional three-dimensional sculpture. Her conceptual approach is grounded in her experiences in the city and collective environments. The interaction between the viewer and the surrounding space creates a stimulating dynamic, where the viewer's body becomes an essential part of the creative process. Using a phenomenological approach, this study analyzes the relationships between artworks and their contexts, examining the reflections and implications in the construction of contemporary space.
