Considering, in Brazil, the growing raise of the projects linked to restoration, building recycling or re-architecture, the text discusses the process of transformation of the ancient building Força e Luz in Centro Cultural CEEE Érico Veríssimo, in Porto Alegre. It has its focus in the description of the main questions of the work process, showing since the historical documents exams and initial conditions found in the building to issues faced for the adaptation of a new and complex program to the reality of the building, allowing a basis formulation of a new center conception.
