Museo della Canapa and the musealization of the cultural landscape of Sant’Anatolia di Narco – Italy

Abstract

Since their emergence in Europe in the mid-1960s, ecomuseums have been consolidating themselves as a symbol of identity and territorial and community transformations, having as their main mission the rescue of the relationship between the territory, the material and immaterial heritage and the community. In this sense, this article aims to analyze the case of the Museo della Canapa, an ecomuseum developed with the purpose of rescuing and enhancing the cultural landscape of Sant'Anatolia di Narco, a small medieval village located in the province of Umbria, central Italy. For the development of this study, in addition to revisiting the bibliographic references on ecomuseum and cultural landscape, a study trip was carried out for field research at the aforementioned ecomuseum. From the data collected during the research and development of this study, it can be seen that, based on rescues of local history, associated with contemporary rereadings, which consider material and immaterial heritage, legacies, memories and knowledge, it is possible to rediscover cultural heritage itself. Cultural heritage until then considered as a mere nostalgia, adapting it to the new expectations and needs of the local community, which again incorporate these cultural traits into their daily lives, through social tools that contribute to the transformation and development of local communities.
