The proposals around the theme of 'healthy home and city'

Abstract

This paper presents one of the most relevant aspects of a debate in the field of city planning in the early 20th century: urban salubrity. In São Paulo we can mention the works by researchers and professors of Escola Politécnica: Victor da Silva Freire Júnior, Alexandre de Albuquerque, Lúcio Martins Rodrigues, Francisco Rodrigues Saturnino de Brito, Rannulpho Pinheiro Lima e Francisco Teixeira da Silva Telles, since they brought considerable advances to our urban legislation, as well as to building rules. Among such changes, we should emphasize the abolition of the cubage concept in the definition of internal areas of buildings; the introduction of isolating components as a guarantee for the healthy house and city project; the use of the transport hierarchy principle for the opening of new lots and the definition of building patterns; and the possibility of designing such hierarchy without the restrictions of orthogonal drawing, which made possible the introduction of garden-city undertakings.
